Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is an approach to body pain by addressing the connective tissue around the muscles vs working on the muscles directly. Freeing the fascia frees the muscles. Traditional massage is best for general aches and pains whereas myofascial release addresses chronic pain and long standing discomfort and can get to the root of an issue over a period of sessions. Typically little or no oil is used and specific areas are sometimes held to allow the fascia to fully respond and unwind tension. Pressure is varied from very light to firm according to what the body needs to unwind and within the tolerance of what a client can handle. Massage is performed with client wearing loose athletic wear.
Restrictions within the fascial system can develop due to injury, repetitive strain, postural patterns, surgery, inflammation, or chronic stress, often contributing to pain, limited mobility, and dysfunction. Sessions are typically slower and more focused, allowing time for the nervous system and connective tissue to respond effectively.
